Most people know bamboo as the hard wood like long stem that is used in place of wood for various frame work and construction. Bamboo has been around for millions of years and many of us have them at home for decorative purpose and in belief of the good luck it brings to a household. Bamboo is from the grass family and is the fastest growing plant in the world with records showing a growth rate of as much as 5 centimeters per hour. From young root shaving to the leaves, bamboo is full of medicinal value and in China alone millions of tons of bamboo is harvested during the golden harvest period. The liquid resin is usually not exported but other forms of bamboo for medicine is available throughout the world.
A bamboo shaving which is usually sweet and slightly cold in nature is used to help with fevers, vomiting and bleeding due to heat. The sap is also used to help reduce fever and used mainly for children with epilepsy. Of course it is not just eaten as is but with the proper extraction it acts as a great source of medicine. The liquid bamboo sap too is used top reduce fever and coughs due to heat during the summer months. Bamboo leaves have a chemical component that actually helps patients who are experiencing blood in their urine and the bitter leaves are even used to treat lung inflammation. Bamboo shavings are also used to treat people with stomach problems and have proven to work very well.
Bamboo like many other Chinese herbal medicines is low cost and suitable to all groups of people. There are times when you do not want to take antibiotics for simple disorders and illness due to the side effect, but something like bamboo has little side effects and with can be a healthy cure too.
